Saiteja Mukkamalla’s sparkling 79 off 51 balls and Harmeet Singh’s career-best 4/21 powered USA to a historic 93-run victory over Netherlands at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai – their first-ever win against the Dutch in international cricket.
After Netherlands won the toss and elected to field, USA’s openers provided a blistering start with Shayan Jahangir taking the attack to the bowlers. Mukkamalla, back in the XI, played a classy knock filled with elegant strokes, combining beautifully with captain Monank Patel (36 off 22) in a crucial 55-run partnership.
Despite Bas de Leede’s spirited 3/37, USA accelerated brilliantly in the death overs thanks to Shubham Ranjane’s explosive 48 off 24 balls, propelling them to 196/6. Chasing a challenging target, Netherlands never got going as USA’s spinners ran riot on a helpful surface. Harmeet Singh was virtually unplayable, claiming 4/21 with his left-arm orthodox spin while Shadley van Schalkwyk continued his brilliant tournament form with 3/19.
Netherlands could muster only 103 in 15.5 overs, with no batter reaching 25, as USA recorded the biggest victory margin (by runs) for an Associate team in T20 World Cup history.

First Innings Highlights
USA came out with aggressive intent and raced to 53/0 within the powerplay – their joint-highest powerplay score in T20 World Cups. Shayan Jahangir set the tone with a quickfire 20 off 14 balls, smashing 2 sixes before Kyle Klein cleaned him up in the third over. Saiteja Mukkamalla then joined captain Monank Patel and the pair batted beautifully to forge a crucial 55-run partnership.
Mukkamalla greeted Fred Klaassen with a first-ball six and continued to play classy strokes all around the wicket. Monank contributed a brisk 36 off 22 balls (3 fours, 1 six) before Bas de Leede’s well-disguised slower bouncer had him caught behind in the ninth over.
Mukkamalla continued his excellent form, reaching his fifty off just 30 balls with a stunning six over deep extra cover. He eventually fell for a magnificent 79 off 51 balls (5 fours, 4 sixes) in the 17th over, caught in the deep off Bas de Leede.
Shubham Ranjane then played a sensational cameo, smashing 48 off just 24 balls with intelligent stroke play and excellent use of the field. His innings propelled USA close to the 200-mark as they finished strongly at 196/6, setting Netherlands a challenging target.

Netherlands’ chase got off to a disastrous start as Nosthush Kenjige knocked over Michael Levitt with his very first delivery – a ball that stayed low and cleaned up the opener. Max O’Dowd (13) and Bas de Leede (23 off 17 with 1 four and 1 six) tried to counterattack briefly, but Harmeet Singh struck to dismiss O’Dowd, caught at mid-on.
Shadley van Schalkwyk then removed Colin Ackermann for a golden duck, leaving Netherlands reeling at 41/3. Bas de Leede, who had looked dangerous, fell to Harmeet Singh in the seventh over, caught brilliantly by Monank Patel at extra cover.
From there, it was complete domination by USA’s spinners as Harmeet Singh turned the screws with his left-arm orthodox bowling. Captain Scott Edwards top-scored with 20 off 14 balls but was cleaned up by a peach of an arm-ball from Harmeet. Mohammad Mohsin picked up two wickets including the dangerous Zach Lion-Cachet, while Kenjige and van Schalkwyk cleaned up the tail.
