West Indies crushed Zimbabwe by 107 runs at the Wankhede Stadium to maintain their unbeaten run. Shimron Hetmyer’s explosive 85 off 34 balls powered West Indies to 254/6, the second-highest total in T20 World Cup history. 

Hetmyer blazed to a 19-ball fifty, the fastest by a West Indian in T20 World Cups. Rovman Powell contributed 59 off 35 as the pair added 122 runs. 

Late cameos from Sherfane Rutherford (31) and Romario Shepherd (21) boosted the total. Tashinga Musekiwa dropped Hetmyer twice, proving costly. Chasing 255, Zimbabwe were always under pressure. 

They lost three wickets in the powerplay, slipping to 20/3. Brian Bennett’s unbeaten streak ended at 5. Brad Evans’ blistering 43 off 21 provided late resistance. Gudakesh Motie claimed 4/28 while Akeal Hosein took 3/28 as West Indies bowled Zimbabwe out for 147.

First Innings Highlights

West Indies lost Brandon King early for 9, caught at deep backward square leg off Richard Ngarava. Shimron Hetmyer walked in and got off the mark with a boundary. 

He was dropped on 9 by Tashinga Musekiwa off Blessing Muzarabani, a reprieve that proved extremely costly. Hetmyer launched a blistering assault, particularly against the spinners. 

He smashed Sikandar Raza for three consecutive sixes, reaching his fifty off just 19 balls. Rovman Powell started cautiously but accelerated brilliantly, reaching his fifty off 29 balls. 

The pair added 122 runs for the third wicket before Graeme Cremer dismissed Hetmyer for 85, caught at deep mid-wicket by Brian Bennett. Powell fell for 59 shortly after. Sherfane Rutherford provided late impetus with 31 off 13 balls. Romario Shepherd smashed three sixes in his 21 off 10 balls. 

Jason Holder finished with a flourish, striking two sixes in his 13 off 4 balls. West Indies posted 254/6, hitting 19 sixes. Blessing Muzarabani finished with 4-0-42-2 while Richard Ngarava claimed 2/47.

Second Innings Highlights

Zimbabwe’s chase began poorly as Matthew Forde dismissed Tadiwanashe Marumani for 14, caught at deep backward point. Akeal Hosein struck with a beauty, bowling Brian Bennett for 5 to end his unbeaten streak. Ryan Burl fell for a duck as Akeal claimed two wickets in his second over. 

Zimbabwe slumped to 20/3 in the power play. Dion Myers counterattacked with 28 off 15 balls, but Gudakesh Motie removed him, bowled by a turning delivery. Sikandar Raza was briefly threatened with 27 off 20 balls before Motie struck twice in two balls, dismissing both Raza and Tashinga Musekiwa. 

Motie completed his four-wicket haul by removing Tony Munyonga. Brad Evans provided late entertainment with 43 off 21 balls, smashing five sixes. His aggressive innings helped reduce the margin of defeat. 

Jason Holder dismissed Graeme Cremer caught-and-bowled. Akeal Hosein claimed his third wicket, removing Blessing Muzarabani. Matthew Forde finished things off, dismissing Evans for 43. Zimbabwe were bowled out for 147 in 17.4 overs. Gudakesh Motie finished with 4-1-28-4 while Akeal Hosein claimed 4-1-28-3.
