India delivered a complete performance to defeat New Zealand by 96 runs in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. A massive batting effort followed by a clinical bowling display helped India claim the title in dominant fashion.

India posted 255 for 5 in 20 overs thanks to strong knocks from Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan. The bowlers then wrapped up New Zealand for 159 in 19 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah produced a brilliant spell with the ball and finished with four wickets to win the Player of the Match award.

India started aggressively and put immediate pressure on the New Zealand bowlers. Abhishek Sharma led the charge with an explosive start.

The left-handed opener smashed his half-century in just 18 balls during the powerplay. He finished with 52 from 21 balls including six fours and three sixes. His quick scoring helped India reach 92 runs in the first six overs.

Sanju Samson then controlled the middle overs. The wicketkeeper batter continued his excellent form in the tournament and scored 89 from 46 balls with five fours and eight sixes. He brought up his fifty with a single off Mitchell Santner and celebrated his third straight fifty in knockout matches.

Ishan Kishan also played a major role in the middle overs. He scored 54 from 25 balls and reached his fifty with a single to long on.

India looked set for an even bigger finish before James Neesham produced a dramatic over. He dismissed Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav in the same over to slow the scoring.

Despite the mini collapse, India still finished strongly. Shivam Dube smashed 26 from just 8 balls while Tilak Varma stayed unbeaten on 8 as India reached a massive total of 255 for 5.

Chasing 256 in a World Cup final was always going to be difficult and New Zealand lost early wickets.

Finn Allen was dismissed for 9 when Axar Patel forced a mistimed pull to Tilak Varma. Soon after, Jasprit Bumrah removed Rachin Ravindra with a brilliant catch from Ishan Kishan.

Axar Patel struck again to bowl Glenn Phillips and New Zealand slipped further when Hardik Pandya bowled Mark Chapman.

Tim Seifert tried to keep New Zealand in the game with an attacking innings. He scored 52 from 26 balls and reached his fifty with a powerful six over long on.

However Varun Chakaravarthy ended his innings with a crucial wicket as Ishan Kishan took another excellent catch near the boundary.

Axar Patel continued his strong spell by dismissing Daryl Mitchell, leaving New Zealand struggling in the middle overs.

The turning point came when Jasprit Bumrah returned to bowl in the death overs. He produced a sensational spell with slower balls to dismantle the lower order.

Bumrah bowled James Neesham and Matt Henry with back-to-back deliveries before later bowling Mitchell Santner for 43 to complete his four-wicket haul.

The final wicket came when Abhishek Sharma dismissed Jacob Duffy. Tilak Varma held a smart catch near the boundary to seal the victory and start the celebrations for India.

New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 159 in 19 overs.
