Lucknow Super Giants entered IPL 2026 with a squad that carries a burning desire to finally lift their first IPL trophy. After a horrible season in 2025, LSG has trusted their players and purchased some match winners.

With Rishabh Pant leading the side as captain and wicketkeeper, and a formidable combination of overseas stars in Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, and Anrich Nortje, LSG looks more dangerous than ever.

Backed by the terrifying pace of Mayank Yadav and experienced pacer Mohammed Shami, this could be the season where Lucknow finally win their 1st title.

Now that the team’s 25-player squad is confirmed, let’s look at which players are likely to be part of LSG’s playing XI for the IPL 2026.

LSG Top Order: Marsh, Markram, and Pooran

Lucknow Super Giants’ top order is one of the most explosive in the tournament. Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram at the top will set the tone with their trademark power hitting from ball one. The Australian all-rounder has accumulated 1,293 runs across 55 IPL matches at a strike rate of 142.9.

Alongside him, Aiden Markram has been one of LSG’s most consistent run-scorers over recent seasons, finishing among the franchise’s top three run-getters in IPL 2025. Apart from their numbers, both lead their respective national side in the T20Is, providing crucial guidance on the field.

Then comes Nicholas Pooran, one of the most feared T20 batters on the planet. The Trinidadian left-hander has scored 499 runs at a stunning strike rate of 178.21 in IPL 2024 and followed it up with 524 runs in IPL 2025, where he smashed 34 sixes. With 2,293 runs across 90 IPL matches, Pooran is the definition of a match-winner.

LSG Middle Order: Pant, Badoni, Samad and Shabaz Ahmad

Once the top order fires, LSG’s middle order has the firepower to take any total completely out of reach. He became the most expensive player in IPL history when LSG acquired him for INR 27 crore ahead of the 2025 season. With 3,553 runs in 125 IPL matches at an average of 34.16, Pant has the ability to single-handedly transform a match in the space of a few overs.

Ayush Badoni, the right-handed all-rounder, has established himself as one of the most reliable middle-order options in the team. His ability to construct an innings when wickets are falling and still score at a brisk rate makes him an invaluable anchor in the LSG batting lineup.

Abdul Samad, the big-hitting right-hander from Jammu & Kashmir, adds serious lower-middle-order firepower. Out of 741 runs he has scored in IPL, 480 came from the boundaries only.

Shahbaz Ahmed anchors the spin department. The left-arm bowling all-rounder provides control and variation in the middle overs, capable of restricting even the most aggressive batting lineups while also contributing handy runs lower down the order.

Bowling Attack: Pace, Pace and More Pace

The combination of Mohammad Shami, Mayank Yadav, and Anrich Nortje will be the stuff of nightmares for any batting lineup in the IPL.

Mohammad Shami joined the Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League, creating huge excitement among fans. The experienced fast bowler has played in the IPL since 2013, taking 133 wickets in 119 matches. He also played a key role in the Gujarat Titans’ 2022 title win and won the Purple Cap in 2023.

Mayank Yadav is the crown jewel of LSG’s pace attack. The 23-year-old Delhi pacer burst onto the scene in IPL 2024, becoming the first player in IPL history to win Player of the Match awards in his first two games. He holds the record for the fastest delivery in IPL 2024, clocking 156.7 km/h.

Anrich Nortje partners with Mayank to form one of the most devastating pace pairings in the competition. He has taken 61 wickets across 48 IPL matches. In the 2020 IPL season alone, he claimed 22 wickets, finishing fourth on the overall wicket-takers list that year.

Digvesh Singh Rathi will be their key spinner, who has impressed everyone with his bowling and wicket-taking ability. In his short career of 20 matches, he has dismissed 24 batters at an economy of 7.56.

Impact Players

LSG’s Impact Player options provide them with excellent tactical flexibility as the 12th player of the team.

Avesh Khdan, the experienced Indian right-arm pacer, can bring valuable death-over expertise and has been a proven wicket-taker across multiple IPL seasons with different franchises. His ability to bowl at the death and take key wickets makes him a ready-made option in matches where LSG need that extra cutting edge with the ball.

Prince Yadav, the young fast bowler, is a genuine pace option who can be unleashed in matches where conditions demand an additional quick. Much like Mayank, his ability to generate serious pace makes him a dangerous prospect for any batting order to face.
