Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Karnataka State Cricket Association received formal approval from the Karnataka government on Monday to host IPL 2026 matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The decision ends months of uncertainty around the venue after a tragic stampede during RCB’s maiden IPL title celebrations earlier this year. Defending champions RCB will now kick off the 19th IPL season against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 28 at Bengaluru as originally planned.
How Did RCB Secure the Government Clearance

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwar chaired a meeting with a state-appointed expert committee to review safety arrangements at the stadium. Representatives from KSCA, RCB, and the event management company DNA attended the discussions.
The committee presented a detailed report on preparedness and compliance measures ahead of the upcoming season.
KSCA spokesperson Vinay Mruthyunjaya confirmed the approval after the review process. The association also thanked Bengaluru Commissioner of Police Sreemant Kumar Singh for coordinating safety, security, and operational evaluations across multiple sub-committees.
What Matches Will Chinnaswamy Stadium Host in IPL 2026
RCB will play five of their seven home matches at Chinnaswamy during the season. The franchise will stage the remaining two home fixtures at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur. Bengaluru remains the primary home base for the team.
The stadium will also host the tournament’s opening ceremony and the popular RCB Unboxing event. Both events traditionally mark the franchise’s start to a new season and attract massive fan engagement.
