Peshawar Zalmi clinched the PSL 11 title with a five wicket win over Hyderabad Kingsmen in a thrilling final at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on May 3.

Moreover, the win ended a long nine year wait for the franchise, which last lifted the trophy in 2017. Captain Babar Azam, who finished the tournament as the top run scorer, lifted his first PSL crown as skipper.

Aaron Hardie was the star of the night, picking up a four wicket haul and then anchoring the chase with an unbeaten 55.

Consequently, Zalmi capped a near flawless campaign that featured just one defeat across the season.

Hardie produced one of the most complete final performances in PSL history. Furthermore, he became the first player to take a four wicket haul and score a fifty in a PSL final.

He removed Marnus Labuschagne in the powerplay before returning to clean up the lower order with figures of 4/27.

Meanwhile, his unbeaten 55 off 38 balls steered Zalmi out of trouble after the side slipped to 8/2 inside the first over.

Abdul Samad partnered Hardie with a counter attacking 48 off 34 balls, including three fours and four sixes.

Therefore, the duo’s 75 run stand turned the game decisively in Peshawar’s favour.

Hyderabad Kingsmen Crumble for 129 Despite Saim Ayub Fight

Hyderabad Kingsmen managed only 129 in their 18 overs after being asked to bat first. Notably, Saim Ayub top scored with a fighting 54 off 50 balls and held one end up.

However, the rest of the order failed to step up under the pressure of a maiden final. Kingsmen lost 4 wickets for 23 runs in the middle overs, including Glenn Maxwell for a golden duck.

Additionally, Sufiyan Muqeem and Nahid Rana picked up two wickets each to choke the scoring. Aaron Hardie also chipped in with two wickets, including the crucial dismissal of Saim Ayub in the slog overs.

Babar Azam, Sufiyan Muqeem Sweep Top Honours of PSL 11

The post match presentation rewarded Zalmi’s standout performers across the season. Babar Azam finished as the top run scorer of PSL 11, with over 500 runs and two centuries to his name.

Furthermore, Sufiyan Muqeem walked away with the Player of the Tournament award after topping the wicket charts with 21 scalps.

Aaron Hardie was named Player of the Match for his all round heroics in the final.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad Kingsmen ended a memorable debut campaign as runners up after winning seven of their last eight league stage games.

As a result, the franchise’s turnaround story will go down as one of the standout subplots of the season.
