Punjab Kings face a serious challenge to keep their IPL 2026 Playoffs dream alive after losing six matches in a row. Moreover, the Shreyas Iyer-led side sit fourth on the points table with 13 points from 13 matches.
They will play Lucknow Super Giants in their final league fixture and need a win to stay mathematically alive. However, a victory alone will not be enough, as their qualification will depend on results across SRH, CSK, KKR and RR. Therefore, the upcoming few days will decide whether PBKS reach the playoffs or crash out.
Where Does the IPL 2026 Playoffs Race Stand Right Now

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have already booked their playoffs spot and lead the table with mathematical certainty. Additionally, Gujarat Titans hold a commanding 99.2 per cent chance of finishing in the top four. Sunrisers Hyderabad also enjoy a healthy 75 per cent probability of qualifying for the knockouts.
Meanwhile, the real fight remains for the fourth and final spot in the bracket. Chennai Super Kings (35.5 per cent), Rajasthan Royals (34.8 per cent) and Punjab Kings (31.1 per cent) are the closest contenders. Furthermore, KKR (13.9 per cent) and DC (10.6 per cent) hold slim outside hopes after their latest set of results.
What Punjab Kings Need to Qualify for IPL 2026 Playoffs
The qualification road for PBKS depends on multiple combinations across the final week. Firstly, they must beat Lucknow Super Giants in their last group stage fixture to reach 15 points.
Consequently, they will then need at least two of CSK, RR and KKR to drop points along the way. CSK and KKR have two matches left while Rajasthan Royals have three remaining.
Additionally, if Sunrisers Hyderabad lose both their remaining games, they will get stuck at 14 points. In that case, a PBKS win can open up a clear playoffs path with only one other team reaching 16.
NRR Could Decide Punjab Kings’ Playoffs Fate in IPL 2026
Net Run Rate could play a defining role if multiple sides finish on the same points tally. Notably, KKR currently sit on a healthier NRR than the Shreyas Iyer-led unit.
Therefore, if KKR win both their remaining matches and PBKS win their last fixture, both teams will end on 15 points. As a result, NRR will then decide which side sneaks into the fourth playoffs spot.
Meanwhile, captain Shreyas Iyer stayed defiant after the loss to RCB and backed his side to bounce back. He admitted that the powerplay cost his team the game but insisted on staying positive going into the LSG clash.
What Happens to Other IPL 2026 Playoffs Contenders
The race for the fourth spot is now wide open with five teams still in contention. Rajasthan Royals’ loss to Delhi Capitals on Sunday took a chunk out of their qualification chances. In contrast, Delhi Capitals received a small lifeline after their five wicket win at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Furthermore, KKR slipped to 13.9 per cent after their defeat to Gujarat Titans in the previous round. CSK currently hold the strongest hand among the trio chasing fourth place. However, a single slip from CSK, RR or KKR could swing the playoffs picture decisively in favour of Punjab Kings.
