Sri Lanka and India will play a two-Test series in the second half of August 2026. Sources within Sri Lanka Cricket and the BCCI have confirmed to Cricbuzz that the matches will take place between August 15 and 29.
The exact dates remain unconfirmed, but both boards have shared the identified window with all stakeholders. The series forms part of the current ICC World Test Championship cycle, adding significant competitive weight to the fixture.
Sri Lanka vs India Tests Scheduled Between August 15 and 29

Sri Lanka Cricket has identified a two-week window for the two Tests after the Lanka Premier League concludes on August 9. Both boards have communicated the proposed window to all parties involved, including the Indian team management.
However, the three T20 Internationals originally planned as part of the tour have no confirmation yet. Those T20s were first proposed as a fundraiser for victims of Cyclone Ditwah in November last year. Scheduling September slots for those games faces complications due to India’s packed international calendar.
SLC Governance Crisis Adds Complexity to the Series
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has travelled to Sri Lanka as part of an ICC delegation. His visit aims to assess the governance situation after the Sri Lankan government dissolved Sri Lanka Cricket under President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The government has since appointed an interim body called the Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee. The new committee may raise the proposed T20 series with Saikia during his visit. Finalising those fixtures, though, remains difficult given India’s crowded schedule in September.
India’s Busy Schedule Before and After Sri Lanka Tour
India resume international cricket on June 6 with a Test against Afghanistan in Mullanpur. A three-match ODI series follows before India tour Ireland, England and Zimbabwe. The team then travels to Sri Lanka in August.
September brings further commitments, including a six-match white-ball series in Bangladesh, three T20Is against Afghanistan in the UAE and a home series against the West Indies. The Nagoya Asian Games, with cricket scheduled between September 25 and October 3, adds further strain to the calendar.
