County Championship 2026 Points System

The County Championship uses a comprehensive points system that rewards teams for outright results and first-innings performances. Here is how teams earn points during each match.

  • A win earns 16 points, while a draw awards 5 points to each side and a tie gives 8 points per team.
  • Teams collect up to 8 batting bonus points based on runs scored in the first 110 overs of their first innings, starting at 1 point for 200 runs and going up to 8 for 400 or more.
  • Bowling bonus points work similarly, with teams earning up to 8 points based on wickets taken in the first 110 overs of the opposition’s first innings, starting at 1 point for 3 wickets and reaching 8 for all 10.
  • A team that loses earns only its bonus points from the match, while a side bowling out the opposition and enforcing a follow-on can collect additional bowling bonus points.
