Scotland Replaced Bangladesh By Being In The Top 20

Bangladesh has withdrawn from the T20 World Cup due to security concerns. As a result, Scotland has been named as their replacement in the tournament. Scotland was the only team ranked in the top 20 that was not originally included in the World Cup lineup, which made them the next eligible side to step in.

How Does ICC Teams Rating Work?

Let’s look at how the teams’ ratings change with each match in the ICC T20I rankings system. The rating points a team gains or loses depend on the difference between the two teams at the start of the match.

If The Rating Gap Is Less Than 40

If the gap between their ratings is less than 40 points, it means the teams are considered closely matched. In such cases, the points exchanged are more balanced.

Match ResultPoints Earned
WinOpponent’s rating + 50
TieOpponent’s rating
LoseOpponent’s rating − 50

If The Rating Gap Is More Than 40

When the difference between two teams’ ratings before a match is 40 points or more, the points distribution differs slightly.

In this case, the higher-ranked team is expected to win. If they do win, they gain only a small number of rating points because the result was predictable.
