Prashant Veer, whom Chennai Super Kings acquired for a record ₹14.2 crore at the IPL 2026 auction making him the joint-most expensive uncapped player in IPL history, has suffered a shoulder injury while playing a Ranji Trophy 2026 match for Uttar Pradesh against Jharkhand.
The injury occurred in the 30th over of Jharkhand’s innings, just before lunch, when Prashant dived to his right at mid-off to stop a firm drive from Jharkhand batter Shikhar Mohan. While he successfully prevented the ball from reaching the boundary, the fielder landed awkwardly on his right shoulder during the attempt.
Despite receiving immediate on-field treatment with a pain-relief spray, Prashant was forced to leave the field and was rushed to the hospital for scans. He later returned with his arm in a sling and is unlikely to participate further in the match.

The timing of this injury couldn’t be worse for the five-time IPL champions, with the tournament set to commence in less than two months. Initial medical assessments reveal that Prashant has sustained a grade-2 shoulder tear, an injury typically requiring at least three weeks of recovery time. This development represents a significant blow to CSK’s plans, considering they invested heavily in the all-rounder during the auction. Prashant, along with Rajasthan’s Kartik Sharma, created history by becoming the most expensive uncapped players ever in IPL history at ₹14.2 crore each.
