The ICC confirmed 12 teams have qualified for the T20 World Cup 2028 in Australia and New Zealand. Co-hosts Australia and New Zealand are automatically included in the lineup.

Nine teams secured qualification by reaching the Super 8s stage of the ongoing 2026 edition. Three additional teams will qualify based on ICC T20I rankings. The final list will be announced on March 9, after the 2026 tournament final.

India, South Africa, Zimbabwe, West Indies, England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand qualified via Super 8s. Australia earned automatic qualification as co-host despite its group-stage elimination.

“The final three automatic qualifying spots will be taken up by the next three highest-ranked teams in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings at a March 9 cut-off, the day after the tournament final. Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Ireland are set to take those spots, with no international fixtures scheduled to affect current rankings,” the ICC confirmed.

The remaining eight spots for the 20-team T20 World Cup 2028 will be determined through regional qualifiers over the next two years, providing opportunities for associate nations to compete on cricket’s biggest stage.
